For individuals who are at high risk of COVID-19, the NHS has put together specific guidelines about how this group can protect themselves most effectively so that they are not unnecessarily exposed to the virus:
- Always stay at home – do not leave home to buy food, collect medicine or exercise
- Stay at least 2 metres away from other people in the home as much as possible
- Get food and medicine delivered and left outside the door
- Prepare a hospital bag, including a list of the medicines being taken, in case there is a need to go into hospital
- Wash hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- Make sure anyone who comes into the home washes their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds
- Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- Clean objects and surfaces that are touched often (such as door handles, kettles, and phones) using regular cleaning products
- Clean a shared bathroom each time it is used, for example by wiping the surfaces you have touched.
